Supporting Our Parks
“Our parks belong to every member of our community. I’m committed to ensuring that there are no barriers to access when it comes to enjoying our parks, recreational facilities and open spaces.” - Rodney Lusk
As the home to Huntley Meadows Park, Lee District is one of the most important stewards of park land in our County. However, investing in our parks system is only one part of unlocking the full potential of recreation and park spaces—we must also ensure equitable access to those spaces for all of our residents. That’s why Rodney has supported funding for the creation of a $5 million dollar equity fund to support infrastructure and parks programming in communities who have not historically received the same level of investment in their park amenities.
Rodney has acted to mobilize resources to support specific parks within our district that cannot wait for new programs to support additional investment. That’s why he has worked directly with the Park Authority Board and the Park Authority Chairman to expedite the deployment of funds to modernize Mount Vernon Woods Park.

In partnership with the NAACP, Rodney advocated for the establishment of a $5 million fund to support the equitable modernization of our parks and recreation services. In the FY2023 budget Rodney supported an initial deployment of $500,000 to begin to accomplish that goal.

In the FY2023 budget Rodney supported an appropriation of $75 million to support the maintenance of heritage and historic sites in the County, such as the Banks Family Farm—which Rodney has prioritized supporting through development proffers.

As Supervisor, Rodney has heard the community surrounding the Mount Vernon Woods Park, and is actively working to address the infrastructure issues that have gone unaddressed at the park for far too long—including lighting and the revision of its master plan.
